Freshman Early Entry Admission Information

Admission criteria

The minimum requirements for admission to the Freshman Early Entry program are as follows:

• Freshman status at participating FEE institution;
• A minimum ACT® superscore of 25 (scores on transcripts are considered unofficial and will not be accepted);
• Minimum cumulative high school GPA of 3.5 on a 4.0 scale;
• A personal interview and writing sample may be required.

Technical Standards for Admission, Progression and Graduation (Technical Standards) are an integral component of the School of Nursing (SON) at the University of Mississippi Medical Center academic requirements that identify core professional nursing competencies in eight specific domains - critical thinking/cognitive competencies, professional relationships, communication, mobility, motor skills, hearing and visual skills, observation and tactile senses. Nursing students must meet all the requirements of the Technical Standards, with or without reasonable accommodations, in order to successfully progress through and graduate from their respective curricula.

Participating schools

The Freshman Early Entry program is a joint offering of University of Mississippi Medical Center, University of Mississippi, Millsaps College, Tougaloo College and Mississippi State University. If you wish to participate in the early-entry program, you must complete your prerequisites at one of these four institutions. Note: The FEE program is only offered for the Traditional BSN on the Jackson campus.

Progression and retention

In order to retain status in the Freshman Early Entry program, the student must meet the following conditions:

• Continuous enrollment as a full-time student at the participating institution in each regular semester session;
• All required courses must be taken at the University of Mississippi or other participating institution in the sequence defined by the curriculum. Elective courses may be taken at other institutions;
• Minimum overall GPA of 3.0, on a 4.0 scale, in all courses through the fall semester prior to the scheduled summer enrollment in the upper-division nursing program;
• Minimum grade of "C" in each prerequisite course.

Matriculation into Traditional BSN program

Upon completion of the second year of prerequisite coursework at the participating institution, if you meet the progression and retention criteria and have completed all prerequisite courses (with a minimum grade of C in each course), you will be admitted to the Traditional BSN program at the University of Mississippi School of Nursing. Official acceptance is contingent upon the successful completion of several UMMC requirements, including a background check.
